Twestivals all over the world

What do London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Auckland, Cape Town, Lisbon, and Bangkok all have in common?
These are, as you may have guessed, just some of the cities where Twestival events are taking place.
Twestival has become a global phenomenon with cities all over the world holding events in support of charity:water. What makes this even more astonishing is that it is likely that the people putting these events together have never met each other, yet the co-ordination of the timing of the different Twestivals has been seamless.
So far, more than 175 cities are holding events on February 12th, organised by volunteers who have come together through Twitter. Although the global effort is being co-ordinated by just a few people, volunteers from Dubai to Des Moines, Buenos Aires to Barcelona have been brought together through the micro-blogging service to work across time zones and cultural borders to make February 12th a success, no matter what part of the world they’re in.
One way to see how Twestival has captured the imagination of Twitter-users around the world is the customised logos that some of the organiser’s have created for their events. We particularly like the ones that Honolulu (dressing the Twitter bird in an Hawaiian outfit), Edinburgh (Dressing the Twitter bird in a kilt), and Las Vegas (the Twitter bird goes to The Strip) have designed.
The worldwide nature of the event just goes to show how important the work that charity: water undertakes is, and is indicative of the positive strength of feeling that is behind their team, and what they are achieving in developing nations around the world.
By getting involved with Twestival (and there’s bound to be one near you so there’s no excuse not to), you’re supplying a basic need in someone’s life - clean drinking water.
You are more than likely not to meet the people you’re helping, but then again the people putting on each Twestival event haven’t used that excuse!
Clean water is likely something that you take for granted and have perhaps felt powerless to make a difference to. Now, through a range of initiatives such a Twestival FM, the Twestival t-shirts, Gumball Rallies, as well as the events themselves, you can make a difference
Even if you can’t get to one of the Twestival events, you can contribute by donating a little time and a little money to charity:water here.
